We considered that for a short while but realized that we would run the rear of the engine very lean, it would run poorly for another 90 miles and risk burning valves. 

The Bic pen worked flawlessly for 7 miles and likely would have made it all the way, something we considered as well. 10 years ago we would have gone for it!

Hey Danny -

 

Instead of doing improvisational surgery on the fuel line to the second carb, couldn't you have just plugged the outlet on the brass T-connector that goes to the second carb and just driven home on the front carb ?
