We’ve used K&N (and AFE) , both cone and insert (OEM design) style filters in all of our newer cars since the mid 1990’s, including a 20v TQ Audi that we put 330K miles on.
The washable feature is a wonderful thing. Keith On Apr 27, 2023, at 1:12 PM, 'Peter Pellicani' via Chrysler 300 Club International <chrysler-300-club-international@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote:
Hi,
K&N filters require a "charge" which means an oil base spray is applied to the filter element and then it is ready for installation. You never have to replace the filter element. When you think it is dirty you purchase a "recharging kit" which includes a degreaser spray can and an oil charge can. Apply the degreaser to the dirty filter and wash it off with a hose (no pressure), let dry and then apply the oil charge. That's it. I use it on all my cars.

Peter, For those not familiar with K & N filters what does “charged ready for installation” mean? I paid $159.98 for both and they were already charged ready for installation. I didn't add a column for K&N because they discontinued the filters they did list for letter cars. I used K&N air filters on my 1961 Ram. There is a current number you can buy, but it is not listed for the ram engine. It is just a quarter of an inch higher but works fine. If interested I will get the K&N number when I go to the garage this week. I've updated the air filter page on the club site. I added columns for Purolator and Wix as those are often available. Please let me know if you find any errors. I will work on updating the club tech page. Some filters, such as the 300H ones, are discontinued and hard to find. Stock up on filters while you can. There is low demand for many unique filters and they are being dropped by sources. My F has K&N filters (washable) that were installed years ago and the part number on the filter is A100E8. Doing a search on that yields nothing so I’m guessing they were discontinued at some point. I did get two Napa Gold elements a while back (#2083) that I had planned on putting on the 4 speed K with the short rams that I’ve got at such time when Dominick Rinaldi can squeeze in the transplant (he finished the engine last fall) Based on what I’m seeing now online for K&N filters price wise (crazy), the Napa units are the way to go, IMHO. As Nick and Dave have commented, the Napa Gold 2083 should be readily available from Napa and fits well. I've been running these for years and, with the high miles I drive my F annually, I sometimes swap them out twice a driving season. I got the 165PL number from the club Tech page, so that should probably be corrected if it's not right. The 189PL number does indeed cross to a LEE AF-132 that I still have one of, but of course I need two. My local NAPA was out of stock of the 2083, but given what I ran into on the computer listings at Autozone, RHi ock Auto, and O'Reilly, I wasn't super confident about ordering them without further confirmation that they would be correct, especially since I have the old print out from the club that listed the NAPA number as 2041, which no longer even comes up on the NAPA store computer. Just 2 fram CA189 from Amazon prime Free delivery coming Monday I will make sure they are correct
