Interesting… I pulled the A/C clutch off the 300K yesterday. This is obviously a reman unit as it has part of a reman sticker on it. This unit seems to have the coil ON THE PULLY and spins with it. It has a little rubber pickup that bolts to the side of the compressor housing with two contact points that slide on a copper ring on the unit. This is different that the
core I picked up. The core has a magnet that bolts to the front of the A/C housing and does not move. Can anyone enlighten me as to the reason or and quality issues of the two designs? One thing that I noted is that the unit with the coil that spins is MUCH heavier than the other. I wonder about the clutch housing bearing as well as the front bearing on the compressor with all that weight spinning around. I also would
suspect that the heavier unit would rob more power from the engine. Interesting.
