Hi John, I am thinking that as well. I did just had the unit apart and cleaned it and put in a new seal on the housing. I also polished, taking care to screw up the sharp edge of the spool valve, and put it back in when I did the above. It is possible that the temp steering box I put in had junk in it and it flushed something to the pump. That said, I placed an Edelman inline filter on the return, and I took it apart yesterday and it was not clogged. So, I wonder. I hate to pull it off again! But I may have to. The other thought was to take the return hose off and put it in a jug. Then have someone start the car and let the pump push out the fluid as I pour a constant stream into the unit. Thus, purging the entire thing and see of that helps at
all. Thanks for the ideas! James. From: john begian <r2gthawk@xxxxxxxxx> James I had same issue on a '68 GTX. In the pump there is a pressure relief valve that can jam because of debris or a burr. If it jams pressure may not build up causing a loss of assist. I would take the pump apart and check that valve. Use fine
sand paper to clean to valve bore and valve. John Begian
