Summary of what was found on the 300E and 300F Blue Streak Tires and Captive Air.
Some of these statements are my own assumptions and opinions.
I really appreciate everyone's feedback and photos.
- 300E and 300F cars came standard with the 9.00x14 Blue Streak tires.
- The build card code for the Blue Streak tires was 77 for the 300E, and 96 for the 300F.
- No evidence found that Captive Air tires were offered from the factory on the 300E or 300F.
- 300E and 300F with Captive Air tires would be coded 99 on the build card as it would have been a non-standard option.
- No build cards found so far that have a different code from standard for the tires.
- Anyone have something different on their build card?
- The Blue Streak tires came with the blue Captive Air sidewall rubber fill valve, even without the liners.
- These tires were capable of being converted to Captive Air by adding the liners.S
- Still need clear picture of the back of a 1959 or 1960 tire showing the message about this.
- 300E and 300F cars would have come with 5 wheels and tires, as well as jack assembly.
- Cars equipped with Captive Air tires from the factory would not come with spare tire or jack assembly, not sure about jack instruction label.
- Owner's manual packet came with Captive Air tire warranty card even if car didn't have the tires. Probably had another warranty card for the standard tires but haven't found one.
- 300F, 8403133491, owner's manual packet has blank Captive Air warranty card, was coded 96 on build card.
- Anyone else have this card in their packet? Was it filled out?
- Anyone have tire warranty card for Blue Streak tires? Was it filled out?
- Cars that came with Captive Air tires should have come with tire service instructions and filler valve.
- Assumption that any cars with the captive air liners had them added after they arrived at dealers.
- Randy Guyer's 300F might have had the liners according to photos. Build card shows code 96. Tire lost during restoration.
- Dan Reitz's 300F had Captive Air decal on driver door, New label was reproduced by Gary Goers. Build card shows code 96.
- Captive Air tire label on cars may have been added when tires were installed or converted.
- Period classified ads listing Captive Air tires might have mistaken the blue dot as an indication they were so equipped, or the cars were fitted after arriving at dealership.
Of course, all this is subject to change as additional information is discovered.
I was asked about other years tires, here's what I found for 300C through 300K in the letter car service bulletins. I believe only the 300E and 300F had the sidewall valves but look forward to feedback on that.
