{Chrysler 300} Am/FM for a 1964 Chrysler

The AM/FM radio for 1964 Chryslers is an AC Delco unit furnished to Chrysler by GM.  The main problem you face to upgrade from the stock A/M is the spacing on the knobs is much closer then on the A/M.  So, besides the radio, you need the original face plate for the AM/FM and the original aluminum trim panel.  There are several other units that are mounted through the aluminium panel.  The ignition switch for one.  Many years ago when I did this conversion, I was able to find a radio delete plate and carve it up to create a stock look.

Rather than going this route, for my last car, I bought a blue tooth module from Out Of Sight Audio.  Just tuck it up under the dash, give it power, a ground and hook up your speakers.  Use your cell phone to control on/off and volume and what ever music app that you wish.  I would have been happy with the stock AM radio for that car, but the radio did not work and the antenna co-axe was broken.

For my G, I am removing the seven button radio and I will be sending it out for repairs.  I have a new dash pad coming from Auto Line in Sweden, so now is the time to strike.  When I removed the speaker, I found one lead broken off at its mounting point.  According to the service manual, this could cause a radio failure.  I am also removing the clock and thanks to John Grady’s tutorial on clock repairs, I should be able to repair it in house. I noticed immediately that there was no fuse in place for the clock.  Eventually when I got a proper fuse and installed it, the tail lights were on.  I haven’t investigated that one yet.  Any suggestions would be gratefully accepted.

Regards

bill
