Thanks everyone.
So I can pretend that I have an “special” F then J Always wondered what the funny stick sticking thru the center console was (kidding).
Really wonder the history on something like this – why somebody swapped them out. Maybe running around without air cleaners because it “sounded” cooler, lost them, sold the car …. Who knows.

John, Carl, Nick,
Thanks for your input. I wasn't aware that the P-a-M 4-speeds had taller air filter elements and the diagonal rear hood braces were removed.
Confirming John's hood brace comment - an RM Auction photo of the Hoover/Cone/Robson hood, compared to my standard F hood, seen better on a white car -

One other item on the F Specials with 4 speeds. The diagonal hood brace directly above both filters was removed to accommodate the taller air filter element height requirement.

I concur with Nick’s summary for 1960. In addition. most (but not all) of the 300Js and maybe some Ram Ks also had red cleaners, which will fit an F as well. Here is a photo of another F Special with red cleaners, the one known F Special convertible, when it was owned by Bruce Hoover and George Cone, photographed at the Allstate car show in Northbrook, IL on June 5, 1982.

As far as I know, in 1960, Chrysler and Plymouth used gold air cleaners and Dodge and DeSoto used red. The exception for Chrysler is the 4 speed cars used red ones and the bases had a longer stud to accommodate the taller filter element.
I doubt the chrome air cleaners ever came from the factory. I don't have any vintage photos of the Ziegler car showing the engine though.

Jim,
I've seen some ram Dodges and Plymouths with red air cleaners, but recall only one 300-F. Attached photos -
- Joe Jordan's Pont-a-Mousson 4-speed F coupe from our 300 Club Fall 2016 Elkhart Lake Meet, with red air cleaners.
- Gregg Ziegler's Speed Weeks 4-speed F coupe has chromed air cleaners. We speculated on whether this was a dealer-installed dresws-up kit, but don't recall any conclusion. Attached photo is from an auction site. These are the air cleaners on that car when I saw it a couple times before it hit the auction circuit. The body and interior of this very low mile F was all original when I was parked next to it, including its Blue Streak spare in the trunk and 6-point harness fitted for Gregg when he raced it.
- Iola 2014 - a friend's '60 ram 383 Matador wagon
Both of these photos show the red air cleaners as having been restored, and not wearing the Forward Look emblem.

I always thought my car was complete but now as I am restoring and asking questions I am wondering where my air cleaners came from! They are red and don't look like a repaint as they have a logo on them.
Anybody have any thoughts on what I have?
