RE: {Chrysler 300} Tire sizes

Good data, but please note that for 1963 per AMA published specs, Ross Roy data book, as well as Chrysler documentation, all Newport (except wagon) and Sport 300s came with 8.00x14 rayon tires, standard in blackwall, optional in whitewall.  New Yorker hardtop and sedan and Newport wagon had 8.50x14 rayon tires, standard in blackwall, optional in whitewall.  New Yorker wagons had 9.00-14 rayon tires, standard in blackwall, optional in whitewall.  New Yorker Salon, introduced in spring 1963, had  9.00-14 whitewalls standard.   300J had 7.60-15 Goodyear Bluestreak nylon whitewall tires standard.   The bluestreak 15” tires were not available on any other models.  No doubt some special orders existed.  The 300 Sport Pacesetter convertible used as the actual pace car in the Indy 500 in May 1963 was, in fact, equipped with 15” Bluestreak whitewall tires and 300J wheels.  Regular production Pacesetters had the 14” tires.   The larger tires on the wagons might have been a production running change.  Early specs list the smaller tires for the wagons.

Per Published data, 63 300 (non letter) had 8.25-14 Standard or 8.55-14

Optional on 6K14 wheels. 300J had 8.45-15 on 6K15 wheels.

8.25-14 Goodyear Power Cushion specs 27.58 in OD

8.55-14 Goodyear Power Cushion specs 28.24 in OD

8.45-15 Goodyear Power Cushion specs 28.68 in OD

Based on comparable General and Goodrich specs, static loaded radius

would be 12.5 in (8.25-14) to 13 in (8.45-15).

225/75R14 are recommended replacement for 8.25-14.

Michelin 225/75R14 (no longer made) speced at 27.6 in OD and 12.1 Static

radius.

Diamondback Auburn Classic HR78-14 (replaced 8.55-14) 27.50 in OD.

American Classic 235/75R14 shows 27.87 in OD.

205/75R15 typical 27.1 in OD / 12.2 in Static Loaded Radius

215/75R15 typical 27.6 in OD / 12.4 in Static Loaded Radius

225/75R15 typical 28.3 in OD / 12.7 in Static Loaded Radius

235/75R15 typical 28.9 in OD / 12.9 in Static Loaded Radius
