The document from Chrysler states a higher compression and different cylinder head part number but no mention of different exhaust. The 9.0:1 reading below is incorrect based once again on the document which states 9.25:1 and the optional head is 10.0:1. I think where some of the confusion on this comes into play is the race cars used the Dodge truck 4 bolt exhaust manifolds. Those sometimes are referred to as the NASCAR exhaust manifolds. When restoring our 300B I found a pair of NOS examples and they are on the car today. They are set up to accept a 2.5" exhaust system. If you look at some detail shots of the "race cars" you can actually see these and in some cases they were actually in the trunk area and exit above where the bumper would be located. I also believe these car ran no mufflers of any kind which makes perfect sense for "race cars". I had a system custom built for our car following the standard route under the car and duplicated the exhaust end angle. The difference is I used larger tubing and mufflers to match the 4 bolt manifolds. When the car is running it sounds much different inside and outside from the normal offering Chrysler offered back in the day. Also IMO the performance is better based on other 300Bs I've had the opportunity to drive. The 340 hp (std) 300B was 9.0 : 1 cr, but the factory apparently built the 355 hp option with 10.0 : 1 cr, and larger diameter exhaust pipes.
