Re: {Chrysler 300} High output alternator

That could be too small a wire to original battery from amp causing a drop under bass peaks , or also a main car battery on the way out .
To handle peaks they usually add large capacitors. Like several Farads , just supplies peaks , no isolator or battery .
But added battery is ok too . If needed due to too small wire  gauge from main battery to amp .
I mean main battery starts the car , 3-400 amperes . Like 5000 watts . Stereo is nothing compared to that but look at the size of wire to starter motor!
No , this is a drain while system is supposed to be off but really is not off .

To fix this problem, I think I would start by removing the additional battery and this sound system. Then......we’ll, then I would be done. ;)

Same problem not there. Before the second battery, when bass knob was turned up, the system would flicker, go in and out. It was like the car could not handle the system when it was turned up. the battery  did not drain.
Then they put in the isolator and extra battery. The car now can handle the bass but the battery now drains when the car sits, within hours.

Make sure your setup is giving you 13.8-14.4V at the battery.  It would take one heck of a stereo to drain a battery while the engine was running even if it's a 40 amp system.

You should be very careful with high output alternators.  The wiring in your car is probably designed for a 40 amp unit and is not able to handle the extra load.  Some people who have done the high output alternator install ended up with a fire.

Hello, anyone know where I can get an alternator with more than the usual amps? I put music in my 1967 Chrysler 300 convertible. I have an isolator and extra battery in the trunk and it’s still draining my battery.
I need a high output alternator.

Thank you,
Elaina
