There's information on the pad by the intake manifold rail at the front of the block. F440 is 1970, G440 is 1971 and so on. There's an assembly date stamped below those numbers and a casting number on the side of the block. Up to sometime in '73 they had forged crankshafts, afterwards you'll have cast cranks identified by a wider,, somewhat tapered vibration damper. That is if you're looking at a complete engine, and not just purchasing a block
