If you found old gasoline deposits down the fuel filler tube on the bottom oft the tank, the tank is scuzzed up with old fuel evaporates. In my opinion you have to clean the whole fuel journey; clean the tank (or buy a new one, not that expensive), blow the lines (or fit new ones), new fuel filter (and clean the hard lines into the carb. Otherwise you’ll always be wondering. Garbage in ….. garbage out. i piece-mealed it because I was too lazy to do it right the first time. Took longer and was more frustrating. Just one old man’s opinion.

The fuel filter appeared to be clean from the outside looking but will remove it and cut it open to see what's inside.
