{Chrysler 300} Stainless rocker molding + "dog leg" stone guard -- how to proceed?

Hi fellow 300ers -

I have a question about how to attach the stainless rocker molding on my 300H.  I recently acquired and restored the rocker and "dog leg" stone guard molding but it appears that the front of the "dog legs" is tapered vs. straight.  Does the rear of the rocker molding (straight) actually go over the front of the "dog leg?"  This seems unusual but I suspect this is the way it works...possibly the "dog legs" could've been ordered and installed without the rocker molding back in the day?

Here are some photos:

I really appreciate the help as always!

Thanks,

Kurt
