Hi Rob,

I am 5' 11" and average build and was able to lay on my back on the floor from the driver's door opening with my head close to the transmission tunnel. It wasn't exactly roomy or comfortable, but I was able to access both the cable and wick from there with my right hand. I would be sure to have a flashlight handy before you squeeze in there so you can see what you're trying to grab. I hope this helps.

remove the cable?…did you remove the seat….its very tight

fit. I can feel it – I am not sure I can get in there easily enough

to unscrew it. I’m 6 1 inch tall so maybe that the issue.

Hi Rob,

New guy to the club here. Last year when I restored the dash in my '59 DeSoto, I addressed a noise from my speedometer that occurred when it was cold outside. With the cable unscrewed from the speedometer housing, I pulled the inner cable from the sleeve and lubricated the entire cable except the last 6 inches or so at the top before the speedometer housing. I used a speedometer lubricant from my local Carquest/Advanced parts store. Ideally you want something with graphite in it. I also unscrewed the wick at the speedometer cable head on the housing and re-oiled the wick. I did not have any noise all of last year after that.

I am new to this group, Just bought a 1959 300 E (Radiant Red) in very good condition-

it came from Portland Oregon( the car now resides in my garage in Salem Massachusetts). It was owned by a fellow out in Portland for

close to 40 years…his name was Robert Winkler. I was told by the

dealer I bought it from it sat for about 10 years and was not driven.

They worked to get it into pretty good shape. Engine runs and starts well.

When I get over 20 mph there is a whiling noise coming from what I think

may be the speedometer cable. I have only driven the car 4 times (still enter here)

and each time I drive it I think the sound is a bit less. Can anyone tell me how to to lubricate this speedometer cable?
