--Pump, reservoir (can), brackets, and cap all painted semi-gloss leaded black enamel without primer from the factory for 64. Actually a somewhat glossy semi-gloss than tended to fade to less gloss over time. Used on just about all black painted items under the hood.
Do not laugh but I have found Rustoleum black semi-gloss enamel to be a rather good match to factory for color and gloss. Surprisingly durable. It is inexpensive paint, however, that will create a boatload of overspray/dust.
Some folks prefer just a bit more bling for their engine compartment. Black gloss engine enamel (without clear coat) makes a good choice in that case.
Over-restoration uses clear coat on everything. Like glazed ham. Might get more $$ at auction but the Club concours judges will actually deduct a couple points for over-restoration.

Can anyone comment on the original black paint finish on a 64 K power steering pump? Is it gloss black, satin, flat? The bracket seemed to be satin.
