Re: {Chrysler 300} Accidental Clyde

It is an interesting story. I signed up with Sotheby's to bid online. The car that I was interested in was scheduled to sell on a Saturday. So Friday  I decided to log on and see how the bidding process worked. They stream  video of the action. I think it was the Chrysler that was being actioned when I logged on. I was on my laptop and after a few minutes viewing and satisfied that I understood the process I logged off. Saturday I logged back on and bid on the 63 Corvette. Did not win and Monday received an invoice for the Chrysler. Glitch in the system? Not sure. I researched the 300G and decided not to fight fate. To this day It is the only 300G I have seen in person. The restoration could not have happened without a lot of help from the Chrysler community of vendor and owners.  Thanks and be mindful when logging on at Sotheby's

Richard,

Outstanding accomplishment! Your new G will draw far more attention at car shows and cruise nights than any ‘63 Vette.
Curious to hear how the mixup on lot #s occurred - if there was a glitch in RM Sotheby’s website.
As other Club members have mentioned, we look forward to your joining us at our upcoming Meets, with your G.

So I wanted to share my story. 2 1/2 years ago while logging onto RM Sotheby’s action site to bid on a 63 Corvette ( I did not win} I inadvertantly and unaware, bid on and won a Chrysler 300G. Monday after the action I was notified of my purchase. My first reaction was that it was a scam and I contacted Sotheby’s to report it. After many emails and conversations and a few weeks later my “new” car arrived. Clyde was in need of a total restoration. Clyde gave me a purpose for the next 2 1/2 years. After removing all the trim interior and engine,  I hand stripped (aviation Paint Remover), repaired rust while removing and repairing many prior “repairs”. I followed this with 2k primer and single stage paint in original Alaskan White. I sent the engine out for restoration while I started the interior work. Materials from Quirey”s, sent the bumpers to be re-chromed. Sourced polished or repaired most of the damaged trim while I sorting and rebuilding the instruments and electrical. Got the whitewalls from Coker.

This past weekend drove it around the block. I am sorting the brakes now. Thank a look.
