RE: {Chrysler 300} Original Mopar Alternator 2095191 2098830 48-62

When I first transferred to Chrysler’s transport division in 1978. We had somewhere around 120 transport tractors at the Windsor Terminal.  They were all Dodges and the engines were 413s, Cummins six cylinders or Detroit Diesel 318, two stroke V8s.  All of the diesel tractors had AC Delco alternators or Leese Neville alternators.  None of the gasoline tractors had these very large alternators.

Leece Neville alternators produced 100 AMPs and up. Never used by Chrysler on a civilian car.

I have a Leece-Neville alternator that came in a ram K coupe parts car I bought.  Physically much larger and different that the smaller standard alternator.  Dunno if it even works.  Brackets and parts are listed  in the parts manual for Leece-Neville alternators for Plymouth, Dodge and Chrysler police cars. The ’64 wiring diagram shows an alternative 40A fusible link to protect the power feed line A1 from the battery to the Ammeter.  Perhaps the Leece-Neville alternator is the 40A unit.  I can’t tell from the books.  Anyone with light to spread on this would be appreciated.

Chrysler alternators were initially made by Lester.  Later by Chrysler.  Never to my knowledge by Leece-Neville, who did build units used in Police and other emergency vehicles.

I have several of those early alternators.  In fact my '65 Barracuda which I bought new still has its original one in place.  I've never noticed the "LESTER" on any of them and I believe they were manufactured by Leece-Neville.
