Our lanolin discussion relates to the restoration of hardened original windshield gaskets. A fresh seal that makes noise is, I'm afraid, a dimensional deficiency of the seal. I experience this 1 out of every 3 times I replace rubber on my old cars.

On the other hand, as the owner of a 68 new Yorker and a student of that car Chrysler had well know vent window whistling problems. The road tests of the day complained about it mightily. Not sure if the 65 and 68 designs are similar. When you have it closed and it makes noise, can you make it quieter or change the pitch by putting pressure on the glass in either direction?

On a related topic, I replaced the vent window seals on my 65 300.   I am confident I did it properly.   But the windows continue to whistle so irritantly that there is no way to drive the vehicle unless the vent is cracked open.   That is ok until we get to fall.   Any suggestions for this on use of lanolin or whatever?   The windows and frames
look proper and are not damaged in any way.

Silicone is certainly the enemy of fresh paint and contaminates a painting field. Paint shops want it nowhere near them.

However silicone will not hurt cured paint and it will not harm future paint work provided the shop takes proper steps to clean the work beforehand. I have used silicone and continue to use silicone on rubber parts of several of my cars that were subsequently painted. Half the car care products sold in auto parts store have silicone in them. This is why we use plenty of pre-cleano and prep-all type products before paint.

I do not mean to argue, Lanolin works well and Go-Jo is an economical way to buy it.

And yes, Dot % is a great brake fluid, it is in my F and savoy.

silicone is brutal anywhere near a painted car ... maybe lanolin is cheap compared to getting silicone off paint ? smile ! $ vs days and never really getting it off . Great for brake fluid though .

Lanolin is available from Target or Walgreens but it likely expensive in the quantity needed hence GoJo. I used silicone in 2005 and its still brand new today.

It should be noted that this refers to the original GoJo. Not the orange stuff.

Any side effects from this process? Does it ooze anything after installation?

The Go-Jo process works pretty well for a gasket that is not split or gouged.  I soaked my 300G windshield gasket with the stuff, then placed it in a black trash bag and put it out in the sun for a week.  Soft and pliable once I washed all the goop off.  Even the windshield installer commented on it.  Dennis

Try Murray Park he is the

Your old gasket with GoJo
Hand cleaner it softens it up.

Pretty much your only source is a used gasket. Check with John Fowlie at Big M in Williams, CA.

Hello all, I am in need of a new windshield gasket for the G after a lot of google searches and conversations with suppliers I haven't been able to find a source, only some generic extrusions. Is anyone making a proper loop gasket? Quirey indicated he is working on trying to get a source but it's a longer term project. THANKS for any guidance or information. Kind regards/Jack DeMar
