Hi, Steve: New bulbs might not help. Make sure they are good old 1034’s. If your front parking lamps are bright and the rears dull, the problem can be poor corrections along the way including the connection from the steering column wiring to the chassis wiring and, perhaps, another connector for the rear stop and tail lights, trunk light, dome light & any other rear electrical.. We now unfairly compare intensity of our old filament lamps to modern LED bulbs that will peel paint at ten yards. I’m pretty sure there are LED bulbs that plug right in to our old sockets but I have no experience with them. Bulb brightness requires proper Voltage (check Voltage while running—should be 13.3-14.3 VDC on an analog meter), Nearly full Voltage at the lamp sockets-check while running—should be above 12VDC. Need a good ground-years ago I had to polish some rusty sockets and used a strip of emery paper or fine sandpaper inserted in a 3/8” split dowel and chucked into a drill. Thad does not polish the hot center beads so you must improvise with a scraper or a rough/ink typewriter eraser chucked into your drill. I had a guy follow me into a gas station one night when I was driving my old 6VDC 1955 C-300. He wanted to compliment me on the car and warn me that my car’s taillights were so dull. I ‘splained the 6-Volt thing to him and thanked him for his high praise, action and warning . Let us know if you can make improvements in intensity. Be sure to check front and rear park & taillights, license plate lamp, front & rear turn signal lamps, stop lights. Trunk & dome, also. Tough to do this by one's self. Getting ready to drive up to that state up north for the fall 300 meet and she commented that break lights are not, bright. Like I don,t have break lights. Sunday, while pulling in my drive, guy behind came flying up and yelled something but radio was to loud. Any way to brighten the taillights. I am going to buy new bulbs and replace the ones that are in there now. Thanks in advance, and hope to see everyone in a few weeks.
