All:
When I purchased my 300K, it came with a small light weight replacement starter motor. Every once in a while, it does not engage properly and grinds on the ring gear. While the K is on stands for winter storage, I thought I would go under the car and change the starter. I ordered a light weight replacement from Mopar Performance, (part number P4510049). When I went to install it, it will not sit flat against the bell housing. The back end of the starter is canted away from the engine block. I pulled it out and compared it to the starter that was in there. I could not see a difference in the nose cone. The electrical hook ups are encased in a big block of bakelite. I thought maybe this was interfering with the engine block and not letting the starter mount properly. I filed it down, no such luck. It is very difficult to see, when your laying under the car.
Have any of you run into this problem? I thought that I read an advertisement for starter motors, where the vendor listed the motors as 1965 and up. The part number for an original motor from my ‘64 parts book is 2095150. Was there a change in 1965. If so, I would be surprised. Any help would be appreciated.
