Background: There were two varieties of upper w/s trim. Mine is the
visor trim. Each takes a different gasket. The one that Steele makes is for the
visor.
The upper trim is held on with large, unique molding clips that need
to be pop riveted into the roof to keep them in place. On the underside, there
are phillips head screws. The left and right sides of the upper trim are
held in place with a large center cap. There may be a channel that the lower
edge locks into. Not sure. This visor trim was used on Chrysler as well. Is that
what your car has ?

I
was told by Johnnie Slayton that only Quirey's has the correct ribbed upper
windshield gasket for holding the upper trim piece in place. How is the DeSoto
upper trim piece held in place?

perfect reproductions of both the windshield and back glass rubber gaskets. From
the factory, they were one piece with the rubber folding into itself. I bought
the windshield gasket for my 55 Desoto (same windshield) and it fit like a
glove. We put the windshield in in less than 30 minutes. Follow the procedure in
the shop manual. Top--sides--bottom.

all,
I'm
planning on ordering the top (ribbed to hold the trim) and the bottom windshield
gaskets from Quirey soon for my C300. They come in 14 foot lengths for $110
each.
Do
I use the upper ribbed piece for only the top and the bottom piece for the
bottom and sides? Or do I use the top piece for the top and sides and the bottom
piece for only the bottom?
I
was wondering if anyone had useable top or bottom gaskets for sale or would be
willing to buy the useable extra length that I don't need.
I'm
going to have professionals install the windshield. Is
there any installation tips I should know about? The
1955 MoPar body service manual has a windshield removal and installation
section. Is this worth buying?
See
attached picture for the rubber mess that is on the car now. The car also had
the visor-type upper trim on it instead of the correct trim piece.
Thanks,
Jim
