Re: {Chrysler 300} RE: [Chrysler300] door adjustments

Just worked it out. So for future knowledge I shimmed the outer end of the bottom hinge and it brought in the bottom of the door. Thanks for all the help.

The weight makes a difference on how the door hangs but there’s probably a fair bit of distortion caused by tightening up all those components when bolting them to the inner door structure. In my opinion, all that stuff should be in place when finalizing bodywork prior to paint.

They may be forcing slack out of the hinges. I have scratched my head many times and not come up with an answer. I had a look at some old photos and you can see when I got the car, the bottom third or so of the rear edge does not follow the body line. It doesn't seem to have the same curve. However when I got it back from painting, you can't really see the same problem and I was really happy with it. See other photos. The top of the door may have been too far in masking the problem. Now with the weight of glass etc in the door and the rubbers on, it looks like it did originally. Very frustrating, but I think the problem is inherently in the steel. Note the bottom corner can touch the inside of the door opening if the door is pushed in too far (without rubber). Maybe they bent it out on the production line to stop it hitting!

You don't want to over pull it, it is possible buckle outer skin.
