The bend of the float arm needs to correct. To straight and it will hit top of tank and read 3/4 or there abouts. To much curve and it will hit the bottom of the tank when empty and also be incorrect since it may read 1/4 or so and leave you out of gas when the gauge still shows some left. Try measuring half a tank and play around with the float wire to show 1/2 full and hope for the best. Then try a few trips to see usage against gauge reading to see what should be in the tank. Read once that is why most 300 owners carry 3-5 gallons in a jug for emergencies. John Iowa 300 K....
