Bad joke ? Let's call it what it is: Misrepresentation.Seller would be more transparent if he stated what it is: a 'tribute'; a 'made car'; a 'one-of-none'; a rebodied car. Does anyone see the X-member on the frame ? I don't. So this could have been cut down from a two door HT.I'm glad our club keeps records of VIN numbers. Keeps people honest.Ron

Subject: RE: [Chrysler300] 1955 C-300 Convertible for sale--claimed to be an original.Last thought du jour: C-300 speedometer, engine, HD PowerFlite, exterior trim and interior may have been salvaged from 3N551199 along with the VIN tag and installed on and in the Newport or NY convertible. Checking the leaves on the rear springs would be an indicator. If so, key parts of #1199 live on as a donor car. Jacked into a hardtop, some would accept it for what it is. But as a convertible it is more like a bad joke when promoted as an original show car.

Thank you, Gerber:
I formerly owned car #1198-built 3/12/55. Car #1199 is shown in the “INT” registry as junked and probably built the same Saturday. One of the pictures shows a heavily painted over VIN tag, but it is there and not readable in the picture. I’m told there is a hidden chassis number on these cars—perhaps under the heater box on the engine side of the firewall. So, perhaps a reinCARnated body, or a VIN tag relocated to a Windsor or New Yorker convertible chassis.
A review of the microfilm of #1199’s CAR RECORD CARD will probably show the car to be a Sport Coupe as they called the 2DHT then.
Pictures and text of the 1955 NYC Auto show indicate the show was held 2/55 with no indication of any Chryslers. https://reservatory6.blogspot.com/2013/07/new-york-city-auto-shows-1952-56.html The Detroit Auto show was 1-20-55—both before #1199 was born. Car and story may be fabricated and, one could only surmise what might have been.
Tiptoeing here to avoid a dustup on the server or with the seller.

I requested a copy of the data plate and/or VIN number and was told VIN is: 3N551199. Continue your search from here.

I don't know what these people have been smoking. The guy mentions VIN and matching numbers but no numbers are shown in 133 pictures. Unfortunately someone may get taken by this scam.
Definitely a beautiful car, though.
I assume the data plate would have shown a different body style for a convertible?

Excerpt from the description: This Chrysler C-300 currently resides in San Martin, California, and has been owned by the seller for over 30 years. This example is thought to be one of three C-300 convertibles built for the 1955 automobile premieres in Paris, New York, and Detroit. The current owner has sent letters to Chrysler to verify the origins of this car, but unfortunately Chrysler opted not to help out in the process.
The game is on.
