Hi all, Had the same problem on my 1956 Dodge. Obtained a tubing with the inside diameter just a bit larger than the outside diameter of the cable sheath and about 18" long. Smeared Chrysler black rubber in a tube up the outside of the cable sheath then slid the tubing over the sheath. Lastly, I installed a hose clamp near the bottom near the tranny. That was more than 20 years ago and I have never had 1 drop of oil escape. Also installed a new "0" ring at the tranny.
