RE: [Chrysler300] 1962 383 Carter Carb

1962 Chrysler 300 sport models with the 383 did not have a 4-barrel carburetor  available. So, if you but a 4 barrel manifold on a 383, I guess you could put anyone’s carburetor on it. The 413’s, even the HP 413’s available in the 300 sport models offered a four barrel available. I have both. A 413 non HP with a four barrel and a 413 HP with a four barrel. I’ve had about 10 sport models with a 383 and they all had a two barrel carburetor on them. That said, there may have been other Chrysler products in 1962 had offered a four barrel carburetor on a 383, but I do not know of that fact. I do have a old 1962 “Motor’s Auto Repair Manual that states a 1962 Dodge and also Plymouth offered a 318 and a 361 with a four barrel manifold. The 361  block is the same block as the 383 and 400 block, only bored out more. It didn’t list the carburetor’s part number, but that shouldn’t be too hard to find.

Hope this helps.

Matt;

I've  read in the past  that the very best 4 bbl is the AVS style. This was on the 440 in the 70 Hurst cars.

Edlebrock is reissuing these and they are in the $400. range. Based on your engine and what cam and such, you select the cfm that you need, from 600 to too many.

I think in the long run you would be better off with a new carb, better suited to your needs. With what I've seen of the costs of rebuilding on old one, nicely done, costs are about the same.

Check it out and let me know your thoughts.

I am need of a Carter AFB 4 Barrel for my 383 build.

I have a 1963 factory intake.

This is going to live on a 383 block under the hood of my 1962 300 Sport.

Anyone have one for sale?

Would be interested in the heat riser part that lie in the chock pot as well.

I may also need a stock air cleaner.

I have a lead on an already rebuilt Carter 3253S....but am awaiting more details.

Thanks!
