Re: [Chrysler300] Pont-à-Mousson Black F Convertible

The former Wayne Graefen black a/c P-a-M F coupe is now in central Wisconsin. That car won best of show at our Fall 2016 Elkhart Lake Meet. A couple photos of it are in our Events Meet report/photos.
Don also still owns his white P-a-M F coupe, as well as his discussed black F convertible.

This is what I know.  Don Petty did and as far as I know and still does have a white coupe and that car did run at Daytona.  The record setting Daytona black coupe still exist...  Also the Graefen black coupe and it is currently owned by a club member in the Michigan area or a neighboring state.  This car was built for Andy Drumm and is the only example with a radio delete and air conditioning.  https://300f.com/8403141452.htm  When Wayne Graefen moved from So Cal to Texas I stored the car for him several months and have driven it and ridden in it several times.

There was (1) 4 speed convertible built in white but it never ran at Daytona.  That car still exist and belongs to someone in the east.  The Petty convertible as many understand it was a "built car" or a "creation" performed by Petty or someone doing the work for him.

I seem to remember the late Tom Turner from Alabama owned the white F 4 speed convertible back in the 80’s.

A little history on Don Petty.  Over 30 years ago, Don Petty owned what I believe was the only other surviving 300F special of the original 7.  It was a white hardtop.  Now that the black 300F special convertible has appeared in his possession, the white 300F hardtop has since disappeared.  Coincidence?  I think not.

Hi To All,

In this month’s Hemmings Bible there is a 2 page spread re a 4 speed Pont-à-Mousson black F convertible.

I searched the Hemmings site and found the full original article from 2017.

A CHRYSLER 300F CONVERTIBLE PACKING A RARE FOUR-SPEED MANUAL GEARBOX

By Jeff Koch from the June 2017 issue of Hemmings Muscle Machines

The car was owned by Don Petty, brother of Lee Petty.

Previously, there was a white F GT owned by Tom Turner?

Some say the Petty car was made up?

Whatever the case, the article is quite informative.

Enjoy reading about the details of the GT 300 racing legends and how Chrysler got around the rules by hiding the fact that the GTs were “factory supported.”
