Matt et al, I too, was immediately drawn to the article in the recent News-Flite, thanks for sharing your story and a great one it is! My brother Ed and I were at the Mecum auction in 2010 (300 content. John Hertog’s “Golden” ’61 300G was being auctioned off, and Ziegler’s Daytona 300F). Gene Winfield was there with a custom gold early ‘60s Cadillac he was putting up for bid that was on the display field. We spent about a half hour just talking about his work and cars he’s created, and he mentioned he was close to publishing a book of his work. Recently I was reviewing some products from Eastwood Co., they have YouTube hosted how-to videos on their products. On one of the videos, Gene demonstrates how to use lead for bodywork repairs, as Eastwood sells products for that purpose. I am amazed at how well he does at his age, such an inspiration! Bob J From: Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx <Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> On Behalf Of Matt Allyn allynentertainment@xxxxxxxxx [Chrysler300] I opened up the latest News Flight issue that came in the mail. In turning to the 1st page.... I saw the article about the Chrysler 300X; built by Gene Winfield in the 1960's. About 25 years ago, I met Gene at his shop in Canoga Park; one night after I left my day job. I needed a pair of chrome bullets for some 1955 Oldsmobile hubcaps I was running on my daily driver; a lowered 1950 Chevy Biz Coupe and he had them for sale. There was Gene, working alone on a car. I bought the bullets and we set them up on the caps & the car. I then asked if I could come work with him in the evenings, for free, to learn from him. From there I spent a couple of years driving to his shop in the evenings to help work on his wares. I (poorly) filmed & edited an instructional video of him him chopping a 1950 Mercury. I hung out with him in his shop and at car shows he would attend. And when my wife needed her car painted; he painted it. It is her 1962 Chrysler 300 Sport. He painted it the stock Caramel (though with a White Roof) and when it was done, Gene exclaimed; "Hey! I think this is the only STOCK car I have ever painted!" He's still going strong at 92 and still painting custom cars! Anyways.....Thanks to whoever for throwing in the article about the 300X!
