Hi Gerard,

I think I have seen one or maybe two 300s whose engine number matches the VIN in the 55 and later letter cars.  I always heard the engines were in a separate room and were just grabbed at random to put in a car on the line.  To find out what the original engine number for your C-300 is, write the club's Microfilm Research Archives.  This is a free service we provide to the club members for their cars.  Email Mark Obermann at 300microfilm@xxxxxxxxx  He will be happy to tell you all about your C-300's options and numbers as it rolled off the line.

Just wondering but do the 1955 300's used to have matching numbers with the engine numbers? Mine is not matching with the engine. My engine number plus the one i have for spare are matching with the cars that are listed in the magazine of somebody else!
