Laying the pan inner side up on a sturdy steel workbench, he used the round end of a ball-peen hammer to create outward bulges at each bolt hole. This added some spring tension around the bolt holes when the pan was installed and hopefully overcame years of deforming the steel around the bolt holes in the other direction. I think this was on a PowerFlite but seems like a good idea on any old pan. Regarding gaskets, cork does compress over time and allows/requires snugging up of the bolts. Rubber, perhaps less so. What was stock and what is best now? My mechanic did not want to use the basic rubber gasket. Thank you.
