Re: [Chrysler300] Synthetic Motor Oil No-No

There is no real basis I know of for that Mike  except opinion and rumor, mechanics are not lubrication engineers, although having more hands on mechanics become engineers would be a good thing. .. same as “synthetics are thin they will leak more”. Manufacturers of seals make no distinction in materials between synthetics or non. Both are oils , difference is in polymer chain length . Synthetics are better oils, why they cost more and are used in aircraft turbines. But nothing wrong with traditional oils . Another part of this is many “oils”from small off brand “race shops” are just relabeled oils. There are only a relatively few oil refineries in the world , owned by really big guys. So a lot of this is hawking private label stuff for $ . Ask to see the refinery ! Smile

I have read (and been told by more than one mechanic) not to use synthetic oils in our classics because synthetic oil is very hard on period oil seals..
