Not aluminum - thin gage steel - mine are coated with a semi gloss silver color coating (paint?)

I have one question concerning the non-chromed parts of the 62 (and probably 61) grille.

Which material is it? I think it could be aluminum because it is very light…

Is it coated or varnished with anything?

How to restore? Can it be gently polished?

Putting it in my ultrasound-cleaner did not change a lot.
