[Chrysler300] 300 C D Push button frustration

I wonder if any other members have had as much fun as I have had in reinstalling their push button assembly into the instrument panel opening?

 If so and want to share methodology please write.  When all of the attaching screws are replaced the buttons lock up.  Very frustrating.   Also the length of the shift cable is insufficient to allow easy access to the cable retainer bracket as well as the infinitesimally small spring clip used to hold it on. You can do it but not an easy service situation and removing it from the transmission to get an additional 3 or 4 inches is not a good option.
