Anyone have any idea why they did this ? On exhaust manifold? Later cars just use regular bolts , coarse . Think GM is that way too . Chrysler seems to have had a fascination with fine threads often in strange places like cross member to frame .or carb mount studs . Maybe an edict from Walter way back . They are stronger and less torque for same clamp force . But strip or cross thread easily .lots more parts , cost with studs . Must be a reason ?
I remember some had brass nuts on fine ends on earlier exhaust too .that is good .
I have several that snapped ,( they seem to be hardened steel) We got the remains out ,I am thinking SS bolts , forget all this . With sealer so it will not seize in head, as the studs do ; big fan of Rectorseal plumbing sealer , oil based .
Anyone have any thoughts on this ?
