Cruised home Sunday night from the Minnesota Street Rod's fabulous "Back to the Fifties" happening at the 360+ acre Minnesota State Fairgrounds this past Friday thru Sunday. I haven't seen the final numbers, but am pretty sure the number of cars and trucks registered exceeded 12,000 this year. No vehicles newer than 1964 are allowed, and some early Barracuda's were there.
Denny and Sharon Gerber were there with their Tango Red '55 300. Larry Casey brought his Air Force blue '58 300-D coupe on Saturday, and his white over Gauguin Red Windsor coupe on Friday. Marshall Larsen was cruising the grounds with Mike Meier and other friends in Mike's '59 De Soto, since his 300-G isn't on the road yet. Randy Guyer left his 300-C coupe and 300-F convertibles at home, and instead displayed his latest completed project - rare '60 Sport Fury convertible factory 383-powered crossram car, resurrected from a rusting heap in a vacant lot. With my 300-F parked next to Randy's Fury, these were the only ram cars there and, with our hoods up, they drew incredible interest.
I was walking the grounds when Mel Stoltzman stopped by to talk about his 300-K and missed him, but did visit with former, and again, Club member Bob Kelley, who's looking to acquire another Letter Car. Missed seeing Bob Jasinski's brother-in-law Mike this year, with his max wedge '62 Dodge Dart, and missed hooking up with Norm Losey's son Chuck.
Cars and trucks of all years and types - from a 1911 2-cylinder Maxwell; exhaust fumes permeated the air; great weather; huge crowds. Well worth my 800-mile round trip!
