Re: [Chrysler300] Stabil fuel stabilizer

Several years ago one of the local country stations was replacing the tanks for their station. Because of the .new use of Ethanol (10%) they opted to only replace one tank with a new tank. The system was designed with a monitors to  measure the amount of water in the bottom and the pump would only pull from the level above the water line. Was fun to watch the process of the installation and hope it worked. Because of the Ethanol content I have never been back to the station. I also learned that the Ethanol was added at the distribution tank farm about 1 mile East of my farm. It comes in as pure gas and after mixing with the Alcohol is trucked out to the stations with the new stuff.

I bought a 100 ml flask several years ago and can determine the alcohol content in the mixture quite easily (interesting process, pictures on request). It never exceeded 6% and was as low as 4% as delivered form the pump. Add to this the longevity of the new gas is only about 1 month and a stabilizer is required for any storage beyond this. I have found Sea Foam to work well and had a bad experience with Sta Bil one year. 10 years from now Gasoline as we know it today may be a thing of the past. I have used Heet or equivalent in the past to thaw a line and it worked real well.  Can of Heet in a 20 gal tank was not a problem.

We used to call it Heet.  A little can of methanol to absorb any free water and break down any ice in the lines, pump or carb.  Also sold as a preventive to the fearful.  Water in below-ground gas storage tanks would separate and go to the bottom where the pump would pick it up and deliver it to your tank.  Not all that uncommon.  I recall working on a ’57 Fury that was frozen from tank to carbs.  Took draining the tank and two days in the warm garage to warm up enough to melt the ice and start running Heet and fresh gas before it would start.   I see Heet is still sold.  Must do wonders on the synthetic components of our old 300’s.

Happy Boxing Day, mates.

That is way to open a can of worms (smile) and 100  posts. See back a few years. End of it all,  Briggs and Stratton site has engineering data on what works and it is NOT stabil. What is best is drain it. Stabil is mostly alcohol. Bad news. You are right,  Ron.

Thanks Mike ! Good to see a letter car getting some exposure.

Personally, not a fan of Stabil. I use Startron for my cars.

Steve,

That Cameo Tan E(not gold as I was informed) is part of a 300 collection in
Munster, IN. The humble owner loaned his car out for this commercial.

Great to see Letter Cars getting visibility on the public stage.

It's single digits here in Saline, very refreshing when you clear the
snow....:)

Hi 300 ites,

Hope everyone had a great Christmas and wishing everyone a great 2018.

I was sitting around yesterday watching the tube and noticed a commercial
for Stabil fuel stabilizer.

All of a sudden I saw a 60 Chrysler tail light , then a 59-60 hubcap.

Chrysler was the featured car in the ad. It was a short ad but pretty sure
it was featuring the 300's.

I will be watching for it again.
