RE: [Chrysler300] 30,000 hellcats vs. 300X

Hi Ray, kind of doing that, now putting 450” 392 with FI in a 300F (I like F, and real 300’s have a Firepower hemi? ) . But my ‘other cars’ 57-60 are all stock or close to it. This project has turned into really a lot of work ,---and valuable time has flown too. More than expected by 2x maybe. But making progress. The idea of a dollar down and a dollar a week , and driving around in 72 hours suddenly has its merits….smile.

Car I chose had been messed with a lot , missing some stuff, wrecked wiring, had what appeared to be a rust problem, but actually was almost perfect underneath. Sat outside uncovered on a driveway many many years in a warm climate I guess. That does in external rockers and wheel well outers, and covers the car in surface blisters, ruins all the power window motors, rubber. . After getting into it , I now have some remorse , as it was a special order all black interior F , in great shape underneath.(Black interior I am keeping) ; I should have restored it. Only black interior/exterior F I have ever seen. They even painted dash black at factory. Totally different look inside.

I agree too, 62 , (lighter) or maybe 59, (strong frame) good bones for this “resto rod” type thing . I have sort of come to a place that I enjoy doing it, and it is not about rush to perfect finishing, ---only to put on the shelf. ..it is the process too. Rewarding. Otherwise you go nuts..a perfect resto, realistically cannot drive too much , for fear of kids attacking it, or getting hit, brakes etc etc --next thought is “Hey, someone else (!) is going to drive MY perfect car….not me ”

Why I love Noel!

“= get your motor running, get out on the highway…..” ---not worry about the color of the brake springs..!! 450” , and yes 4 wheel discs , will help with that .

John and all;

Easy (?) but pricey fix to this dilemma.

Buy a nice Plane Jane 300, like a 62, and install modern suspension, 4 wheel discs, a Hellcat crate engine, and a 6 speed stick shift or latest Automatic. May be able to do this for about the cost of a new Dodge Hellcat.

My son restores Muscle cars, 'cuda's, Challengers and Chargers, but keeps them all stock.

His best friend however, does just that, restro-rods them. Gorgeous, but bad ass cars.

He is a world class painter, has had many correctly restored customer cars in National Mags, but does this to his personal cars.

Fast and fun, but very safe to tour in.

Best of both worlds.

Ray

Just saw that they have made 30,000 of the Hellcats over past three years. . , and just saw one go 9.28 at 150 with a 4 speed. Not a demon, a modified hellcat. Hard to believe –really hard to believe --they have sold so many . ….that car has outsold all our 300’s put together. Good move for Chrysler, despite the cynics . and they have sold about 7000 Hellcat engine 4 dr Chargers

The reason I was looking , was I was musing, ---where can you get a 300 today, ??? that is more like what our cars were. The present one is more like a 4 door Cadillac, just not as fast as the quickest Cadillac –which tempted me in the coupe a few years back…even went to Cad dealer to look, but this Mopar guy could not do that. . I for one would be interested in a “real 300” with a hellcat engine. And a 2dr coupe body, off the present one, too. Make it exclusive like the first ones were …Somehow the present one , as sold makes me think of a checker taxi, or Stude lark. . Even the latest track Lincoln is on attracts . And the super Tesla. We need a real 300…Bar is raised to 700 hp. Chrysler 700? About 80k?
