RE: [Chrysler300] Ram Car Torqueflite Specs

Hi John, I’m going by what’s listed in the parts books.  It does not distinguish on the 426 single quad vs. max wedge.  I do not have any expertise on the 426.  I do know that Chrysler offered the relatively “tame” 426 wedge single quad street engine with 365hp and then there was the Max Wedge in several different outputs up to 425hp which was intended for racing and was altogether a different beast.  I don’t know if the 365hp  426 wedge was around in ’63; I know it was offered in ’64-’65, but I think that a 426 of around 373hp was on the books in ’63 but I believe it was a dealer (not factory installed) item.    The max wedge dates back to mid-year ’62.  I suspect the J tranny was the same used on the “426 maximum performance” engine (that is what the max wedge was called back in ’63 in the service bulletins).

Carl, Do you mean 426 HP, 1 quad, or the max wedge 426?

With respect to the J, the TorqueFlite transmission assembly was the same as the 426 Dodge/Plymouth cars, part number 2408007, later superseded by part number 2464426.

1964 ram cars had a different transmission number than the non-ram cars, but the ’64 experts can comment on that.

To the group

Just curious: I'm looking at the '64 factory shop manual and it doesn't say anything about a different trans for the '64 ram cars. I'm pretty sure I recall that the "J" had the same five clutch disc trans as the Max Wedge cars‎.

Thoughts?

Keith
