I bought my current 300F coupe in 1972. Over the last two years I have had two power window gearboxes fail. The gearbox is a worm and worm gear assembly, and in both cases the failure mode was the same. The worm gear is a metal disk with nylon teeth molded on to the disk. Perhaps due to age (?) the failure was that the nylon teeth crumbled, leaving the window in whatever position it was in when the worm gear decided to self destruct. You can imagine the loss in both utility and value of your Brute if one or more of the windows is permanently locked in a partially up or down position, Fortunately John Grady, Jamie Hyde (and others?) have come up with a solution. They have remanufactured the worm gear in all metal, so that this failure can never happen. .Since I have experienced two such failures, I am convinced that they were not a fluke Since is unclear how long these gears will be available, I urge all F and G owners to consider updating their power window gearboxes, even if they currently work just fine. The gears are not cheap but consider it insurance against future disasters. Terry McTaggart
