Dear 300 Group, Thank
you very much for your precious help with the air filter. I
am sure I will find the right one in one of your links. And
yes, rockauto is sending to Honestly
I didn’t even have time to check out these links because I was infected
with the engine-block discussion. I
just crawled underneath the car to check the engine casting number (left side
of engine) which is: 2205697 Turned
out to be a 413 – wow what a positive surprise! And
now maybe it’s more understandable why this car has a 4-barrel
carburettor. Wouldn’t
have discovered that soon without this discussion and your help! Thanks
a lot again!!!! Kai Dr. Kai Rentmeister Tierarzt, DiplECVN Tierärztliche Praxis für

Four barrel carburetors were not available on the 383 engine in a 300.
They were available on other division cars like the Plymouth, Dodge and De
Soto. The 1962 Chrysler Sport I got from Missouri was listed as a 383 CI
engine. It turned out to be a 413 CI engine with a four barrel carburetor. To check if you have a 383 or 413 is very easy
Kai. The 383 engine identification is on the flat surface area on the passenger
side of the engine between the fuel pump and alternator. It should read S 38
and have a date 11 22 On a 413 CI engine the identification is on a
flat surface located on the front driver’s side of the engine in back of
the power steering pump and under the A/C unit. It should read S41 with a date
like 11 22 . If it is marked HP there then it is a High Performance. As far as air filters, you can get a
replacement from Auto Zone, NAPA or even MOPAR I believe. Hope this helps and if you need any help, just
send an email. Jerry Lindsay 11469 87th Ave N Seminole, Florida 33772 From:

kai.vet@xxxxxx [Chrysler300] Hello 300 Group, Last year I imported a 1962
Chrysler 300 sports convertible from California (black plate car) to Germany,
Europe and this I my first message. The car has a 383 engine with a single
4-barrel carburettor and a single air filter in the supposed to be original (?)
black round housing. The car runs and has a very good
substance but will be restored over the years. Concerning the air filter I have
unexpected problems, because the German MOPAR-Shop told me there is only NOS
and the costs would be 80$ something which is pretty high for a normal wear
part. The filter has a diameter of ~10
inches (25,3cm) and is approx.2,7 inches
(6,8cm) high. Guys, where do you get your
filters from? I know there are several 62 non-letter-cars out there! Maybe there is also a correct
spare part from another American car company (Chevy, Ford, Pontiac…) If some of the European members
are reading this: a source of supply in Europe would be highly welcome (to
avoid toll fees and comparatively high transport costs). If anyone needs pictures I could
send them. Thanks for your help, Kai Dr. Kai Rentmeister Tierarzt, DiplECVN Tierärztliche Praxis für Neurologie Mainfrankenpark 16 b 97337 Dettelbach 09302 - 932210
