Prior to 1960, they were painted body color. -----Original Message----- From: Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of 'David Schwandt' finsruskw@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [Chrysler300] Sent: Thursday, December 10, 2015 12:09 PM To: 'C Bilter'; 'Lindsey'; dan300f@xxxxxxx Cc: jfwilliams2007@xxxxxxxxx; 2HsandaHeritage@xxxxxxxxxxx; Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx; jholst@xxxxxxxxx Subject: RE: [Chrysler300] Battery Tray Color I agree w/Carl. Prior to ’60, the battery tray was an extension and welded assembly as part of the fender liner, then a rubber tray installed to fit under the battery w/it’s own drain tube. I can state for a fact that ‘63 was body/engine bay color on top and sides and generally just primer underneath (gray primer on my examples) for both Chrysler and Imperial. This is because the battery tray perhaps was primed for the parts bin stock and attached to the unpainted fender when the car was assembled. It was painted body color as part of the assembled front clip. Not much body color paint if any got on the underside of the tray. Black trays in ‘60-‘61 = possibly different assembly line process?
