I had an issue a few years ago, so I added a generic electric fuel pump to my H. I mounted it just forward of the gas tank, hidden from view. First I installed a push button switch under the steering column. The idea was to hold the switch in while cranking the car. It worked fine, but then I thought, what happens if my fuel pump push rod fails again? So I replaced the push button switch with a lighted rocker switch. The switch gets its power from the ignition-on terminal of the starter switch, so that I don't forget to turn it off when leaving the car, and there's a nice red glow under the dash when the switch is on. If I'm ever on the road and my mechanical pump rod fails, I can still travel. It now is only used for cold starting. On another car I had a few years ago, when my pump failed, it was due to a defective diaphragm in the pump. Yes, it dumped gas into the crankcase. I installed an electric pump at the tank and took power from the ignition switch. Then I removed the mechanical pump, cut off the pump arm, filled the internal arm mechanism with PC7 epoxy, and reinstalled the pump, connected the gas lines, and closed the hood. The fuel is pumped right through the mechanical pump and it looks real. I have been using buyrealgas.com for years and see fewer need for repairs but I am still dealing with the past usage. One advantage to electric fuel pumps in seldom used car is they eliminate extensive cold cranking with no or low oil pressure. In the next few years I expect to convert to electric pumps on all of my old cars (two done already). I am also pushing the AACA to accept this as a needed change because of the fuel. ?Jack Jack Boyle (913) 544 4650 Enjoying the same C-300 since 1967 IMG_0623 small From: Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of 'Ron Waters' ronbo97@xxxxxxxxxxx [Chrysler300] Sent: Friday, August 7, 2015 8:42 AM To: chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Club Subject: Re: [Chrysler300] Road trip UPDATE final Dave - Sounds like one or both of your carburetor accelerator pumps needs changing. To solve a future problem: Use a VENTED gas cap. Otherwise, you risk collapsing your tank. If you don't have one right now, drill a 1/8" hole in your present cap. This will stabilize atmospheric pressure inside the tank as you drive. It was nice chatting with you briefly at the meet. You've got a great car ! First off, Carolyn, Melissa, out probably youngest and newest member BTW, would like to thank Tony and Crew for wonderfully memorable meet. Pulled off in 1st lass all around, THANK YOU!!! Rolled into the house at around 4PM yesterday, 8/6? Todays history ?? What is significant about 8/6?? Had rain from Springfield, OH clear thru Indiana Total miles for the day?535 with MPG at 12.72?not bad for a fresh engine w/2500 miles on it so far?? Now for the discomforting part? The F rubs good when cool, like in the morning, 1st off, for about 15-20 minutes. Then as soon as everything gets up to temp, it will start in with a stumble when accelerating, kinda like it?s running out of gas. Had this problem on the way out also?? But if I drive like there is an egg under the foot feed, we can get along just fine. Thought it was the non-vented gas cap I have on it, so we removed that once the fuel level got down some, no change. Stopped for lunch and left the hood up for ½ hr, ran great again for a few miles then same old thing again. Has got to be under hood heat related to lousy gas. Was good to get back to IA and a Casey?s where most have non-alcohol gas and the pumps are labeled as such. Filled up at Davenport, added 8oz of Marvel mystery oil along with the ?valve save? stuff I have used for years and took off, no change. Topped off w/non-alcohol gas at home and parked it. Going to change the fuel filter and go out this AM while it?s still cool and see what happens now that I have a full load of ?decent?, albeit low octane gas and see what happens. One fellow I met at a fuel stop mentioned I should try a different heat rang plug. I am running NKG?s at present Other than that, had a good trip home with a side excursion to the flight 93 memorial (still under construction) at Shanksville, PA. Another ?moist eye? experience as was all of Gettysburg. Both, must see places for any ?True American?
