If you have the time, a problem similar to this was once taken care
of by doing the 'hot tanking' the block (boiling out) then once picked
up from the shop taken to what used to be the 'quarter' car wash and
blasted with the high pressure water and soap for 10 minutes, rinse
and repeat. Let completely dry for a week or so and Do it All Over
again. Hot Tank, quarter car wash, rinse and let dry. Then do it all
over a third time. eventually working thru all the layers of crud.
Subject 392 block was full of crud up past the casting plugs in the
side of the block when first opened up.

  A DIRTY JOB!!

Be prepared to get grimy the first hosing out and the second hozing,
and maybe even the third time with the high pressure wash.
Eye protection Would Not Be Out Of Order. :-)
Seem to recall we spent over a month doing this, it worked for us then.

Hopefully the chemical cleaning is as effective today as it was back
then.
