Hi folks,
If anyone goes to look at the cars, see if you can get the VINs
for club records. Curious about the '62. It looks like a fun car
to drive, but I doubt an H came with green vinyl interior, so
someone got creative. Nor did a C300 come with the blinding red
dash, seats and everything else - that is just RED, RED, RED!
We've never had a club member named Rogers (or any variation of
the name) living in Texas. That is a lot of cars for one man to
own much less drive.

The list includes Five 300 cars. 55-C300, 56-300B,
62-300H, 64-300K and
65-300L. Just looked at the Rogers collection. I just
followed the daily
list as shown below. John Holst...

- For anyone interested, a gentleman by the name of Jim
Rogers owned a
massive auto collection called The Sunbelt Collection.
In one building he
had 150 convertibles and in another building he had 100
to 125 hrdtps. He
passed away this past summer and now all of the cars
(248) are going to
be auctioned off the end of Feb. by Meccum. The cars are
in decent shape
and I know there is at least a C300 and a 300 there
along with just about
anything else you could imagine including 3 Ford
retractable, several
Cadillac converts and about a dozen Rolls-Royces. I
believe the sale is
either the 27th or 28th of Feb or possibly both days.
I'm sure Meccum
will have it on their website. Good luck to anyone
interested. We're
going to go and see how things turn out.

- Scottsdale BJ no reserve unless they agree your car is
worth $500k.
At their Vegas auction it's $150k. Russo Steele allows
reserves but makes
suggestions. They sent a rep out to look at three of my
cars, spent four
hours and days later got back to me with a suggested
reserve. Their
response was that "they're there to sell cars not host a
car
show". I get that but in a questionable market if I
needed to sell
the choice between a low reserve at Russo and no reserve
at Barrett I'd
go with Barrett.Â

they went the no

- I noticed that several of the cars at BJ did
have reserves on them,
so maybe they have changed their practices. I
think the no reserve
thing may have kept a lot of cars away. In any
event, it appears
that you may now have a reserve on the sale.

- I guess the answer is that if you have
a really nice letter car and
want to sell it, you should at least
consider BJ. Of course, if
you sell it there the proceeds may be
taxable whereas if you sell it
privately, uncle will probably not know
about the sale.

- IMHO - I think you would
be dreaming to think the
price of other G's
just rose anywhere near 20%
based on one car's sale,
especially if G
owners begin to test the
market and flood it with
inventory. There just
aren't the buyers out there
to support the demand at
that price point,
even as investments. A knee
jerk reaction may ensue to
some degree but I
would be surprised if it
could be sustained.Â

prices 20% higher it's
heading in a positive

set a tone and begin the
wave then be ready for
the ride. Right after
the auction a neighbor
(classic car guy) of

calls me and tells me

"your car is really
valuable Matt, it's easy
