Thanks to my best friends Don and Pat for hosting this meet. It was casual. relaxing and personally special. My K mentor, Brother Don, has endured late night phone calls, during dinner calls, and even a few butt dialing calls. Thank you Don for your enduring friendship over the years beginning in Stafford, Ct. I started the K prep. with a bang. Literally. After I set the dual points, the distributor was out of position and the carb was flooded. After 43 years of tuning, I ought to know the clip positions. Regardless, I reset the clips, and cranked on the engine. A hellacious backfire resulted. Both mufflers blew out at their front seams! My Diane ran out to the garage and asked if I was all right, hearing returned and I replied -Yes. Ah she loves me! After the dust settled, I reset the distributor, and started the Brute. shut it down and performed a walk down inspection of the exhaust system. I called Don and told him I probably won't be driving the K to Mystic. He said, "you need to fix it, and come to it's birthday party". Thru local contacts, I found a new friend, who is a welder with a muffler shop! Exhaust problem was corrected! Polish, clean and primp car, check all fluids and adjust brakes. Began drive from Virginia and lost braking in Delaware. K pulled into right traffic lane, we escaped injury with the grace of, you know. Braking thru New York was iffy, but we have a 4 speed to shift and go! Surgery was performed, and meet Brothers helped for transport and spring application. I had lived in Mystic and the surrounding areas for years, and I met with both of my grown Daughters , and then seven special friends thru out the course of our 300 meet. My other Brother, Bruce, answered the call to arms and brought his shop tools and helped with the universal joint replacement on Vern's (Mick) K. I was quite surprised, and delighted, to have won a 2nd place trophy!! Thanks to all who made this possible.. Great meet, good to make and re-unite with friends. Thanks to Jamie for complete set of brake lines . Lessons learned: look at brake assemblies and hardware, then adjust and test. Check out all rubber, hoses and tires before leaving your areas. Oh, and listen to your Woman... Diane said: "Dave, a 300 meet is like a box of wrenches, you never know which one you'll need". That's all I got to say about that.
