Re: [Chrysler300] Stick shift G for sale

That's exactly correct! I'm glad you cleared that up because I was THINKING the car was an F and not a G and I didn't recall it being a stick.

BTW, where is Emmit today?

Mike - the "hay hauler" you are refering to was "Emmitt", the white 300F convertible rescued from a rock quarry.  Randy got it running and displayed it at the Carson City meet in 1986 in "unrestored" condition with a bale of hay strapped to the trunk lid.  Emmitt took "honorary" best of show that year.  Four years later, a fully restored Emmitt took best of show at the Sacramento meet in 1990.

I remember the club articles about that car. I remember pictures of it hauling hay with the trunk lid removed. I seem to remember a huge amount of rust repair being discussed. I was surprised to see it restored and how good it looked at a later meet.

Hello Again:

I just got this note back from "Inc." club co-founder Ray Doern regarding the stick shift G I remember:

Hi Chris - well, I do know the car.  When I got it shortly before a move to Ohio back in 1978, it was kind of a gold color with bashed in quarter (right side I think) and no engine.  Merle stored it for me and eventually I came to realize I would never get to restore it, so sold it to Randy Hastie in the early 80's.  He completely restored the car and showed it at our meeting in Indy as I recall.  It was originally black, and looked new (he took me for a ride in it).  I think Randy later sold it to some prominent collector in California, but I don't know for sure.

I bought the "G" from a former club member named Bill Gambell of Mulino, OR.  He also had a black "H" convert, which is now owned by Arlen LaBeau of Longview, WA as far as I know.

That's about all I know.

300ly,  Ray

A past issue of the "Inc." club magazine from 1988 lists three 300G serial numbers associated with Randy Hastie; 130632, 143320, and 197153.  This car may or may not have one of these three serial numbers.  A match to any of the three would confirm.  A rebodied car is easy to spot when you look at the VIN plate.  The plate and the door jam are drilled with two aligning holes.  In the factory, the holes were aligned and the VIN plate "spot welded" to the door jam, leaving the holes open.  Typically when a car was rebodied, the VIN plate was reattached with "pop rivets" in the holes.

If I was to check this G out, what clues should I look for to confirm that it is the re-bodied Windsor?
I also know of another G stick that is being restored by a neighbor. It is white with a factory red interior.

Greetings All:

Time for me to weigh in with my personal recollections of a Black Stick Shift 300G that I was up close and personal with, in Sacramento, California, back around 1983-1984.  Most likely this is the same car, given how few were made.  Here is my recollection on the car and its history.

Back when the "Inc." Club was formed in 1969, one of the founding members owned a stick shift 300G.  I'm not sure of the original color, but the car had been repainted red.  At some point, the former owner had the unfortunate circumstance of sliding the G into a fence post, crushing one quarter panel and fin just behind the rear wheel.  The G was parked and it sat idle throughout the 1970's.  This car had the reputation and was known at the time as being the car that started the "Inc." club.  Around 1982, another "Inc." Club member in Sacramento, California purchased the damaged G in hopes of repairing and resurrecting this rare automobile.  This particular member owned his own business, which included a shop and a crew of maintenance technicians with the skill to undertake this project.  Finding the body damage considerable, this member obtained the body shell of a stick shift Windsor.  He had the crew transplant the guts of the G into the Windsor body shell as part of the restoration, including the body data plate and VIN plate.  The car was painted black as part of the project, most likely because the car was originally black.  It was then outfitted with a tan reproduction interior.  The car was completed and shown at local car shows in 1984.  Shortly after that, the member sold the car and I haven't seen it since then.

Between 1983 and 1985, I was a college student in Sacramento, California, and this particular "Inc." club member employed me at his business.  I watched as the stick shift G was rebuilt in the shop and still remember seeing the old and damaged G shell sitting gutted in his yard before it was hauled off and crushed.

So if someone in Sacramento, California is selling a black stick shift G, I am willing to bet money that it is the same car I just described above and has been sitting quietly and out of site of the two 300 clubs for 30 years.

I'd love to hear Gils input but I think there are only two numbers matching code 281's known.  Andy Mikonis's white car and my red one.

I  might be a little out of date 'cause I haven't paid that close attention.  Five known at last count.  None black.

Anyone in the area to have a look and get the chassis number and data plate images?

John
