It should be noted that the clutch discs are actually disc pairs.  A pair consists of 1 lined disc (both sides) and 1 unlined disc (all steel).  It is correct that there is only 1 clutch disc pack in each Powerflite transmission.
 
    6 pairs for Windsor, New Yorker, and Imperial
    7 pairs for the c300

I believe that some of the Plymouths and Dodges might have only 4 and 5 clutch disc pairs.  That's somewhere in my literature if memory is correct.  My c300 has a New Yorker transmission with 6 clutch disc pairs.  Yes, I've had it apart and installed new discs.
