I am in Australia - a far distant place obviously compare to where 300s were made.
And the issue/thought of local made special things leaving where they were conceived/built is a tricky one - here in Australia over the last 40 years we have gone from maybe owning everything and being capable of designing and building anything, to now only owning debt, and not even now making nuts and bolts. Car wise we never really built cars - Ford GM and Chrysler in the late 20s onwards buying out our infant car builders, such that no big enough players ever left to compete. And (sadly?!) - because of this - with no major brands other than the big 3 - we imported maybe more fine/quality cars from UK and Europe in the period before WWII, such that not having devestating WWI &WWII of Europe, we were home to more quality early high performance cars of the pre WWII period than existed in rest of World - eg Vauxhall before GM in the 20s were a fast car - the 30/98 - we nowadays see the few left head to UK and Europe, and even the later Lamborghini Muiras, now most going/gone. And you yanks grabbed back the only SJ Duesenberg converttible Victoria we ever had, untold others such as V16 Marmon, Cadillac, etc. But here, against that - huge numbers of more US cars (compared to what we could afford to then buy new then )- partculary 60s Mustangs and many 50s 60s of all types - have come in over last 20 years. And/but many, maybe as high as 50-70% have been ones needing resto, that but for us would be scrapped - many yanks see aussies as suckers for buying your rubbish - and we can be.. And sure there are sought after 300s here now - but maybe only 10-20 - and again maybe 50%+ of those the ones you guys passed over - all my 3 might fit that, and part of my falling out with a former 300C Club person was he stated the car I had bought was I think unworthy of ever being saved/whatever??! And my 2nd one came here only because it seen as totally unsaleable in US then. Add in my 1st one - back in 1981 it was impouned by local Customs as they thought it a scam importing it - they could not believe anyone would restore a car so sad condition. But they all were worth saving - car people know how to see a good/sound car beneath the neglect/dirt/etc. My 1st car has near mint undamaged rust free panels, was complete and near 100% factory re shocks etc in so many ways - how many 300Cs are around like that to find now? And on my look in Register, there are still not that big a number of fine early 300s in Europe/UK - but I share you feeling of loss at even one more. It is like here in Australia as a bit more of what little left our land/icon company goes to US or Chinese ownership. But that is the World today - and do not forget Australia and UK, parts of Europe have been long/true friends, allies in Wars with the US, so it is as if we friends, if not family !!? Christopher in Australia perhaps presenting an upside view - grain crops in southern parts of nation tipped to be maybe 3rd biggest in history if usual disasters in next 2 months do not hit them - that for you US 300 grain growers that ask - gas price just under 160c a litre for 90 octane, premium 10c more To: terrymct999@xxxxxxxxx; Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx From: dan300f@xxxxxxx Date: Sun, 27 Oct 2013 16:22:37 -0400 Subject: Re: [Chrysler300] Gone Terry:
I shed a tear also. That's one more of our beloved 300's gone from our shores. My cars will never see foreign shores as long as I own them.
