RE: [Chrysler300] Part Throttle Kick Down

When doing any adjustments to the kickdown mechanisms on a 727 you must be cautious. The lever action, arm positions, and lengths of the rods are all very important and if not installed or adjusted by someone who fully understands the internal operation of the transmission, it can lead to failure. (Sometimes rapid failure)

Perhaps someone with more knowledge than I can weigh in on this?

Hi Mike,
As you well know, in order to downshift, one has to mash the pedal to the floor, often resulting in a 3 to 1 downshift. The modification I refer to will let the trans downshift from 3 to 2 at part throttle (1/2 to 3/4 pedal). We all know that when our beasts are in 3rd gear at a slow speed, the only way to get out of the way of other traffic is to nail the throttle. A 3 to 2 downshift at part throttle is much more civil and controlled. One could use the push buttons to achieve the same result, but that is not always practical.

I know this conversion works for later 727's, but it seems that the 62 - 65 trans may have some unique differences. I'd be interested in what parts were used and the proceedure as well as any general comments about the conversion. Thanks, Charlie in Ottawa, Dual Quad 62 Sport
