Here I what I did: 

The tabs that hold the script to the backing can be "pinched" back together or ground down with a Dremel tool ( leave as much of the tab as possible). 

Don't strip the black backing plate down to bare metal - just clean and dull the finish with aceatone or something similar and then repaint. 

I didn't have the script re-anodized, I found a local business that uses a different process with acceptable results. 

To re-install the script, use an epoxy like JB - Weld on and around the tabs, insert the tabs thru the holes and place a weight on the full length script to make sure that it has full contact with the backing plate until the epoxy sets.

For the year 1962 we have the "Chrysler" or "New Yorker" script that lives on the thin ribbed aluminum backing piece that lives on the front fenders. 
Is it possible to remove the script to: 
A) Repaint the ribbed aluminum backing piece 
B) Re-Anodize the script in the gold 
  
If so, what are the steps to remove and reinstall that script?
